Meet the Team

We are a group of young adults from St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church motivated to serve, educate, and love the poor. This summer we are going with Sister Lisa Valentini to El Factor and surrounding communities in the Dominican Republic. The Missionary Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus are called to be the Heart of God on earth and we are blessed to share this mission experience with their community.

My name is Gregory. I'm a newly graduated homeschooler and will be attending Franciscan University of Steubenville, Ohio in the fall. This is my first mission trip out of the country. I've done service projects in my community before but I'm excited to experience what God had called me to this summer in the Dominican Republic. Mother Theresa said that loneliness and the feeling of being unwanted is the most terrible poverty. I hope that my presence will help those who we meet know that they are wanted and loved by us, but especially God.

I love to travel the world and go to new places and use my Spanish. I love working with children and giving back. Mission trips are a way I can incorporate all these things I love and what better than through sharing God's love. I look forward to our mission trip to the Dominican Republic and know that God has great things in store for it. :-)~Rachel Diehl

Q:Why did you decide to go on this mission trip?
A: I was asked by Johnny Sangree if I would be interested in going on this mission trip. I had been thinking about doing something along these lines for a while and then this fell right in my lap. The dates worked so I said yes and I am excited about what is to come. I'm going into it with an open mind and a serving heart and am looking forward to what the experience brings.

Q: Why do I want to go to the Dominican Republic?
A: Two years ago a nun by the name of Sister Lisa came to our St. Paul and spoke of her mission trips. Walking out the door, I knew I was called to serve. Her talk and later research inspired me to grow spiritually. For two years I have been waiting and praying for the chance to go, and in just a few short weeks I will be traveling with none other than Sr. Lisa herself.

God has placed a strong desire on my heart to serve others near and far. This will be my second trip to the Dominican Republic with Sister Lisa. I'm looking forward to encouraging the children and adults we meet to fall in love with Jesus and their Catholic faith. I love seeing the joy on the kids' faces when they hear the adventurous stories found in the bible and to to hear their sweet voices sing songs of praise. It will be an honor to teach the catechists new ways to encourage and motivate their students to grow in their faith. I thank God for this opportunity to be His hands and feet in order to spread the Gospel of God's endless love for us." ~Ann Johnson

This mission trip was an answer to my prayers. I had been wanting to serve on another mission trip and got a phone call out of the blue from Ann with this opportunity. Serving on mission trips is one of the joys of my life and I am so excited to allow the other members of our team experience the joy of mission work for the first time. We have a great group and I can't wait to see how this trip will change our hearts and the hearts of all those we meet. -Johnny
